On the night they hosted punk rock band and local legends, Social Distortion, Orange County SC had visitors FC Tulsa feeling a bit distorted themselves. OCSC found “Another State of Mind” led by a hat trick from Milan Iloski, en route to a 5-1 victory at Championship Soccer Stadium on Friday, May 13.
Erick “Cubo” Torres got the fireworks started early in the fifth minute, as he was the first to meet Mikko Kuningas’s cross from a set piece. It was Torres’s fourth goal of the season.
Back in the starting lineup, Kuningas made his presence felt creatively. He found Milan Iloski with a through ball in behind the Tulsa defense for his first goal of the night in the 9th minute.
Iloski would strike again from close range off Brent Richards’ assist from a counter in the 21st minute.
Just seven minutes later, Iloski would make a push for his hat trick, but was taken down by FC Tulsa defender Adrian Diz Pe. Diz Pe saw red for his challenge and Daniel Pedersen slotted home the penalty into the lower left corner and helped OCSC go up 4-0.
In the final moments of the first half, Iloski found his hat trick, the fourth in club history and first to be done in a single half, with a strike from just outside the 18-yard box.It now also makes him the club’s leading goal scorer at five goals on the season.
This was just the tenth time in USL Championship history that a club scored five goals in a single half.
OCSC put FC Tulsa in a hole in the first half with five goals which has only happened nine previous times before tonight in USL Championship history. and kept them there, as they controlled the majority of play in the second half.
Tonight also marked the professional debut of 16-year-old midfielder Jonathan Gomez coming in as a substitute in the 81st minute. Gomez signed a USL Academy contract with OCSC last month.
FC Tulsa notched a consolation goal from Brian Bown in the last minute of stoppage time.
This result keeps OCSC undefeated on their homestand. The homestand concludes with the second Beer Fest of the season on Saturday, May 21 against El Paso Locomotive FC. To reserve your spot in the beer garden, checkout orangecountysoccer.com/beerfest.
