An already historic season for Orange County SC became even more epic tonight in Southern California. Trailing as the match crossed the 90-minute mark, Orange County shocked OKC Energy FC with two goals in stoppage time for a remarkable 3-2 win. The club now holds sole possession of first place in the USL’s Western Conference.
The visitors got on the board first when midfielder Phillip Rasmussen converted a penalty in the 20th minute. Orange County equalized less than five minutes later when forward Michael Seaton headed home a lovely corner kick delivery from midfielder Aodhan Quinn.
In the second half, midfielder Hugh Alexander Dixon put Energy FC back in the lead. He tapped a shot past goalkeeper Andre Rawls in the 64th minute.
With an upset looming, Orange County SC dazzled the 3,400+ fans at Championship Soccer Stadium at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine. First, defender Noah Powder leveled the match with a free kick that beat goalkeeper Bryan Byars at the far post. Next, with momentum suddenly shifting to Orange County's side, Quinn stunned Oklahoma City. With the orange smoke still hovering from Powder’s goal, the Orange County SC star midfielder unleashed a left-footed effort from outside the penalty area. The shot bounced past Byars and sparked a massive celebration from the supporters, players and coaches.
Orange County SC now sits atop the USL’s Western Conference with 54 points, one ahead of Real Monarchs SLC and Phoenix Rising FC. The club will return to action next Sunday, September 16th, on the road at Fresno FC before returning home to host Real Monarchs on Wednesday, September 19th.
