August 24th, 2018 (Irvine, Calif.) – Orange County SC returns home tomorrow night to take on the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros at Championship Soccer Stadium at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine. Gates open at 5:30 PM, with kickoff at 7:00 PM.
Orange County enters the match on an eight-match unbeaten streak with four straight wins. On Wednesday night, the club defeated Portland Timbers 2 at Merlo Field 3-2. USL Golden Boot leader and Orange County SC forward Thomas Enevoldsen scored two goals in the contest, and defender Alex Crognale provided the other score.
Also in action on Wednesday, RGV FC settled for a 1-1 draw on the road against LA Galaxy II. Midfielder Jesus “Chuy” Enriquez scored in the 51st minute for the visitors. Justin Dhillon equalized in the 77th minute for Los Dos.
In the previous meeting in South Texas this year, RGV FC dealt Orange County its second loss of the season. Despite holding 66% of the possession, Orange County SC was unable to score in the 2-0 defeat. The Toros’ scores came from forward Aldo Quintanilla as well as Houston Dynamo loan and winger Memo Rodriguez.
"We are in great form, and have a lot of momentum going. But at no time are we looking past any opponent, thinking about playoffs," said Orange County SC Head Coach Braeden Cloutier. "There’s still much to play for, and RGV is a very organized team that doesn't allow many goals. We went to their place in a similar situation earlier in the season, on the back of four straight wins, and came out flat and lost. We will be ready to go from the whistle tomorrow."
The Toros are the second-lowest scoring side in the USL, with 22 goals on the season, but they feature strong goalkeeping and defending with a midfield that does well in possession.
Saturday night’s match will be fun for the whole family at Championship Soccer Stadium. In addition to the match, Orange County SC has prepared activities to show appreciation for US military servicemen and women followed by a post-match fireworks that fans can enjoy right on the pitch.
