IRVINE, Calif. (June 4, 2018) –Orange County SC squared off against Sacramento Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday night. The evenly matched teams battled throughout the night, trying to capitalize on goal scoring opportunities, however it would be Sacramento Republic FC who would come out with the three points at home.
Orange County SC came out strong in the first minute as Thomas Enevoldsen attempted a shot outside of the box, however he was denied by Josh Cohen. In the 22nd minute, Sacramento Republic FC would get their first opportunity to take the lead when Cameron Iwasa was awarded a free kick. Villyan Bijev headed the shot but sent it wide of the left post. In the 41st minute, Koji Hashimoto sent a corner to the right side of the box, Enevoldsen fired at the net, but it was cleared off the line by Josh Cohen. The teams would head to the locker rooms scoreless at the half.

As the second half got underway, Andre Rawls made a magnificent save from the center of the box denying Jure Matjasic the goal. In the 53rd minute, Enevoldsen sent a perfectly weighted pass to Nansel Selbol who sent the ball just wide right of the net. The game changer would come four minutes later, as Villyan Bijev drew a foul off Nansel Selbol in the penalty area. Jeremy Hall stepped up to take the shot, converting the penalty kick. Orange County SC fought back trying to net an equalizer, first in the 67th minute as Enevoldsen’s powerful left footed strike from outside the box was saved by Josh Cohen followed minutes later by a Michael Seaton’s close-range header that missed to the left of the net. In the 79th minute, Nansel Selbol sent a cross to Giovanni Godoy who fired the ball at the net, pushing Cohen to make the save. In stoppage time, Orange County SC would find themselves down a man as Joe Amico sent off following his second yellow card of the night. Orange County SC’s defense put in another sturdy performance holding Sacramento Republic FC to one goal on the night.
“I thought our defense as a whole was very good. Andre and Walker lead that, but everyone in the back were solid,” said Orange County SC Head Coach Braeden Cloutier.
Next up for Orange County is the second installment of the 405 Derby as they take on LA Galaxy II at StubHub Center on Sunday, June 10. The last time these two teams met, Orange County SC dominated the match taking the three points in a 3-0 win at home. The club returns home to Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday, June 16th at 6:00 PM when they take on Reno 1868 FC for Family Movie Night presented by Enthusiast Media Group.
